As most of us know, the Center City area is filled with those of us that ride bicycles, even the Police. These bikes range from the hand-me-down to the very expensive road bike. It is very important that everyone remembers that if you are going to leave your bicycle unattended it should be secured with a good lock. Most U type locks can be easily broken.
Here are some tips to reduce your risk of becoming the victim of a bicycle theft:
1. NEVER LEAVE YOUR BICYCLE OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT, the lock means nothing to the bike thief.
2. Never leave your bike unattended or unlocked, even for 15 seconds.
3. Never leave your bicycle in a common hallway (apartment building).
4. Use a short heavy chain with a short heavy lock.
If you follow these 4 basic rules you reduce the chance that your bicycle will be stolen.
