**DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!**
As most of us know, the Center City area is filled with those of us that ride bicycles, even the Police. These bikes range from the hand-me-down to the very expensive road bike. It is very important that everyone remembers that if you are going to leave your bicycle unattended it should be secured with a good lock. However, as you can see in the above pictures most U type locks can be easily broken. The thief uses a short 2 by 4 piece of wood and some good old fashion leverage to break the lock.
Basic Tips
Here are some tips to reduce your risk of becoming the victim of a bicycle theft:
1. NEVER LEAVE YOUR BICYCLE OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT, the lock means nothing to the bike thief.
2. Never leave your bike unattended, even for 15 seconds.
3. Never leave your bicycle in a common hallway (apartment building).
4. Use a short heavy chain with a short heavy lock.
If you follow these 4 basic rules you reduce the chance that your bicycle will be stolen.
